As usual, last year Dr. Mariela Oviedo-Diego<\/strong> collected scorpions with winter habits in the Sierras de C\u00f3rdoba. However, winter would be longer for these scorpions that year. To explore their internal morphology she embarked to the Zoologisches Institut und Museum of the University of Greifswald in germany, to work with Dr. Peter Michalik, a specialist in the morphology and evolution of arthropod reproductive systems. During the winter months in the northern hemisphere Mariela performed computed microtomography techniques to understand the ultrastructure and internal morphology of sexual traits. Research internships are key learning opportunities for academic growth, and the long winter for these scorpions seems to be ending (for now).<\/p>\n
